Michael Jackson, Something relatively Topical

John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Otis Redding, Big Bill Broonzy, Arthur Lee, Jimi Hendrix, Phil Lynott, Muddy Waters…

Oh, sorry, you have just interrupted me whilst I am making my list of Dead Black People who, in my humble opinion, had more talent, musically, than Michael Jackson… This is just a sample, the list is a lot longer than this.

There has been a lot of garbage in the news regarding the death of this man, news items like, the worlds best entertainer ever, Fountain of nothing but good in this world etc…

But the one I find particularly grating is that he was the first Black performer to cross over and appeal to a white audience…

This is a fabrication beyond all fabrications…

What about the old Bluesmen in the 1960’s, who discovered they were influencing the likes of the Rolling Stones and decided to use this to their advantage and tour Europe?

What about Otis Redding’s often talked about appearance at the Monterey Festival.

What about Jimi Hendrix, Arthur Lee, Phil Lynott about whom can be said, that their audiences were mainly made up of white people.

What about so many other examples that I’m not going to write down?

I want to take nothing away from Michael Jackson, he achieved a lot and was loved by many, but there needs to be a limit to the platitudes…

Last week Les Paul Died, there has not been the same level of adulation for him, but I wouldn’t have expected there to be… He and his family would probably not have wanted there to be…

But some would argue that he did achieve more…

It’s the age we live in…
